T1W10 Forgive and Forget

After the culprit was indicted by the four teenagers, the police came. "If it weren't for these pesky kids, I could have got away..." the murderer shouted as the police hand-cuffed him...
"Turn off the TV now and go do your homework. Exams is less than 1 month away and your break time is over as well" my mother reviled my youngest brother, Benny, to do his revision as it is his PSLE year. He was watching Scooby-Doo cartoons on cartoon network, taking a short break from his revision.
I was still thinking of what had happen. My brother had taken my baketball to play and got it confiscated by his teacher. That maudlin item was given to me by my grandfather when I was around 4-years-old. I could not forgive him. Even though he had his punishment and got me a new ball, I could still feel rage extant within me. I did not talk to him for weeks.
As time goes by, I started to forgive him. I tried to forget this incident.

Soon, we patched up and I forgot about the incident as well. I changed my point of view. I cannot imagine hating him for the rest of my life. He is my brother after all. So, I forgave him.

T1W9 Reunion Dinner

Every Chinese New Year, there would be gathering with relatives at my grandfather's house. From late afternoon, people start arriving for the annual sumptuous feast. On the table would be a rife of food.
Before dinner start, we would toss yu sheng which is prepared by my uncle from a large bowl shaped plate. I can still remember that we even tossed the chopsticks as we had forgotten to remove the extra chopsticks. Then, we would grab a plate and start filling our plates with food. Children enjoy eating the crackers from the yu sheng as well as sweets and drinks without restrictions set by the adults. Although we can eat as much as we like, my mum would always advice us not too eat too much lest we fall ill.
After dinner, my brothers, together with my cousin and few other relatives would play together. Erither at my home or at my grandfather's place. As the older folks enjoy chatting and playing majong, we would usually play computer games or play mojong together at my place instead as there is no space at my granfather's place.
I could still remember a year before we started playing mojong, I got to my grandfather's house to play with my cousin who was trying to fix the toy model of a motorised race car. As we had missing parts, we dismantled the model done my my brother to get the missing part as that model was spoilt.
Now, as we grow older, we take turns playing majong every CNY. We set a rule of losers out. This way, those who want to play have a chance. other than that, the guys also enjoying playing halo 2 or soccer with the X Box console. They are often so concentrated in their game that they would balk when it was time to go home or to go to bed.

T1W8 Leaving Home

"I'm not going to accommodate to his needs. Neither am I going to take care of him. I'm piled up with homework and school activities. Not to mention competitions." I shouted. Then, I grabbed my bag and ran out of the house. I ran as far as I could, along tortuous dark alleys and soon, it was dark. I had yet to take my dinner and was still in my uniform, having just came home after Chinese Orchestra practice. I craved for drinks. I was thirst and hungry and did not have much money with me. just my $10 savings. I went to a nearby coffee shop to buy a bowl of noodles. Then, went to the playground to spend the night, latent in the tunnel slide.
After itinerating around the place for few days, I decided return home. I was running out of money and missed my comfortable room at home. I went home, and apologised to my parents, promising them not to run away from home again.

T1W7 Trust

After what happened, I never trust anyone again. It was only keeping in touch with CY and getting caught in between the gangs. Their words were often fallacious. It was usally due to the fact that they wanted me to 'support' them. They would concoct a plan to subterfuge me into believing that what they say are true. I felt stupid for being so guilable. They had a reason to exult, for they had hurt me deeply. The feeling of watching me feel sad. It must have been enjoyable to them. It makes me feel more isolated. At times, I do not feel like part of the class. After I graduated, I was so glad that I would be at a place where no one can harm me. But I was arong again...

T1W6 The Plan For The Future

Being the older progency, my grandfather hopes that my second brother and I can continue with the family business. Having reached the age of 73, he decides that we are old enough to work once we turn 18. Although I hope that I can help the family, but I also wish that I can pursue other interest and finish University as well. I feel that it is still a little too early to think of all these but at least it gives me another option.
Sometimes, I wonder if I can even work with my brother, given that he is the antithese of me. He is gregarious while I am much quiet during family gathering.Due to the fact that there are no other girls in my generation, I do not anyone to talk to about more personal problems. My brothers, cousin and younger uncles are always together. My brother is quite frugal. While I am an altrustic person, my brother is not. He treats some people better than he treats me. This often cause us to quarrel.
I wonder if it is a wise decision for us to work together. Maybe my grandfather wants us to learn how to work together harmoniously.

T1W5 The Fight

"How many times must I tell you not to touch my things! Where is my prefect badge? It was in my room minutes ago!" my youngest brother shouted at my second brother. It is not the first time the two brothers have been quarrelling. It is not the first time this happpened. For the next five minutes, they were debating who was culpable. Then, they started calling each other epithets. All this din started two months ago when my youngest brother got a new room.
It is hard to tell how was it possible for anyone to gain access into my youngest brother's room. My second brother alleged that he did not go into the room. Even so, he was spotted roaming outside his room before the item went missing. Ten minutes into the heated argument, they were declaiming who was at fault.
"Is this what you are looking for? I found it pinned onto your shirt." the maid called out. She happened to be washing our dirty clothings. My brother turned around, looked into her hand and his face turned pink with embarrassment. He apologised to my second brother and went back to his room to do his work...

T1W4 Hatred

He had scored 9A1s for his examinations and could not wait to go home and tell his parents the good news. Once he got down the bus, he ran all the way home. When he reached home, he was devastated by grief when he saw what had become of his home. The once majestic looking house was almost razed to the ground by the big fire. There were firemen putting out the fire. Someone had obviously wrecked havoc in the house.
After three long hours, the fire was put out. He ran into the house to look for his parents. The house was charred. However, his parents were no where to be seen. He ran into their room and saw them lying in a supine postition near the stairs, unconcious. "or are they dead?" he thought. The paramedics came in and pronounced them dead by 4pm. He vowed to take revenge.
After the incident, he changed alot. He was no longer the cheerful boy they used to know. Thus his friends left him. He became a loner. "They are biased." he thought to himself.
Two years later, he managed to track down the man who murdered his parents. He then spent a year planning his revenge. Five years later, the time came. He had kidnapped the man. He plan to murder him.
Now, the police have ambushed him. There is no place he can escape. They tried to persuade him to put down that lethal weapon in his hand before they shoot him. Instead of taking their advice, he started to inveigh against the law and justice. The police shot him and he fell dead onto the ground.

ALL IN THE STATE OF MIND

If you think you are beaten - you are
If you think you dare not- you don't
If you would like to win and don't think you can
It's almost a cinch you won't.

If you think you'll lose- you're lost
For out in the world you'll find
Sucess begins with a fellow's will
It's all in the state of mind.

For many a race is lost
Ere even a step is run
A many a coward fails
Ere even his work is begun.

If you think you're outclassed- you are
You've got to think high to rise
You've got to be sure of yourself before
You even can win a prize.

Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man
But sooner ot later, the man who wins
Is the man who thinks he can!

I know that this has nothing much to do with english. But I want to share this because I find it meaningful. For those who want to improve your English, you must believe that you can do it. Have faith in yourself. I think that only when you believe yourself, will you have the confidence to do it. I think that's all...

T1W3 The Girls Gang

I wanted to join the gang as I wanted acceptence. I e-mailed CY. I importuned her to allow me to join the gang. At that time, she had just went back to HK, and she was preparing for Secondary1. CY tried her best to help me as she used to be part of the gang. In our many e-mails, she would always tell me that she would try to settle it. in the first one she replied, she was not sure if OX would let me in. On the other hand, the gang was still in bad terms with Elyssa (nicked named a piece of shit in chinese) and Ng Min Yi (we i had the same name as Ng and happened to be in the same cca- guzheng at that time). CY reckon that both of them would make the gang hate me. CY tried to tell Jia Yim as well. In her next e-mail, she told me that she could only help me after my exams as Jia Yim have not been online. She also wanted me to pass the message that she promote me to the gang first. 'U must also be in gang as all my best frens are in gang!' that was what she wrote to me. I did as told. When the gang sort of ignored me, I surmised that they did not believe me. maybe only Jia Yim did. However, OX premised that I just wanted to be accepted and had made up that e-mail.
Then, it was near the PSLE when the quarrel started again. I was forced to take sides. As both were my friends, I did not want to take sides. Thus, I spent most of my time under the stairs with a book and some food from the canteen. Incontrovertably, the stairs was a haven to me. At first, i used the stairs outside the guzheng room as it was very quiet there. Later, I decided to stay at the stairs outside the HOD office, where the prefect noticeboard is. It proved to be a better place as I was able to look out to the assembly area and it was a very short distance from the assembly area. I was able to eat and read in peace. Thinking I had betrayed them, both parties treated me badly. I have never had these feelings before. My emotions were mixed. I felt angry with them, I was confused, scared and lost. There was nothing I could do. They made me feel as though I am nothing but a pawn in a chess piece or a tool they can use.
After the exams, I was kept busy with school activities like the planning of the P6 Graduation Ceremony. I had volunteered to help out in the P6 graduation committee. CY was busy as well, still trying to adapt to her secondary school life, loaded with homework. Ultimately, I did not join the gang. I even swore that I never want to be in the same secondary school as any of those horrible people. I wanted to go to a place where they would not be able to harm me. That was also one of the reason why i agreed to go to a school so far east when I stay at the west.

Can one improve his/her English skills?

I believe that nothing is impossible. We cannot dicover new oceans until we have the courage to lose sight of the shore. If you never try or put in any effort to improve your english, how are you going to improve at all? If you just sit there and do nothing, thinking that your grades will improve, then you're wrong. Instead of improving, your grades might even drop.

To improve, you can try to read more books. You can learn how to write your composition better. You can also learn new words as well as the meaning of these words. You can also learn what makes the story interesting. Improve your writing skills by observing the way they write the story.

Comprehension and summary writing is not just something that you can improve by doing more and more practice. You can do thousands of practices and not improve. There's a method to solve comprehension questions and a method to do summary.

If you can, you can, If you can't, you can't. If you keep telling yourself that you can't do it, you can't do it. you must have confidence in yourself and tell youself that you can do it. Put in the effort and your skills will sure improve. the amount of effort you put in will tell in your results...

T1W2 The Past

In 2006, I graduated from NHPS. That year was also the year I knew the world better. I can still remember an incident that happened in the library. Shi Ying was throwing pillows at Ying Ying, so I stood up for Ying Ying. I stopped Shi Ying. When Shi Ying asked me why, I told her that because she was my friend. Knowing that I was serious, she launched into a diatribe that Ying Ying had never treated me as a friend. I was stubborn. I’ve thought of what she said. I’ve never cared if my friends have ever regarded me as a friend. To me, I find it fruitless to argue with fractious people and people of that ilk as they fail to understand logical reasons.
Another incident that could not be
expunged from my memory is the captain ball interclass. On the day of the competition, the 2nd group from my class was short of a player as both the player and the reserve was absent, thus I had no choice but to join in that group as I was the only reserve left. My new group had lost, but the group I was reserve for won the 3rd prize. They received a trophy and the one for the reserve was given to my form teacher as I was not the reserve for that competition. When the teacher gave the trophy to me, they rest were angry.
Those were some of the unhappy events that happened. The two happiest events which happened that year were the graduation day and Singapore Youth Festival Competition. I participated in the SYF and got a gold award, which was an improvement as compared to the previous competition. The other was the prize giving ceremony. That was the only year that I got a prize. It was the full color award which is given to students whom have contributed to the school and achieved outstanding results in national/ international competitions or events. Even though it was not a prestigious award, I was happy with it.
Throughout the six years there, I learnt many things. As years pass, my view of living in a
utopia changed. The world is a place with many challenges and obstacles. There are many types of people. The evil ones and the good ones…

T1W1 My first true friend

Many people have friends. CY is the first person who cared about me. She is a sanguine and phlegmatic person. As I often fail my Higher Chinese exams in primary five, and would cry and get upset over it, my classmates usually left me alone. She was different. Instead ignoring me like the rest, she comfort me and try ways to cheer me up even when I berate myself for being so useless that I can't even pass a paper. CY never left me out. On days that we stay back for remedial lessons when we were in primary six, we would play games together, after we complete our homework with other classmates She treated me quite well although I was not that close to her then. The group of us will usually play with the guys of our class in the assembly square or basketball court. On Fridays when I have my CCA, Guzheng, I would bring a basketball (but usually after CAs & SAs) to shoot hoops, and CY would often join me. Unlike me, CY is meticulous with her work. She hardly makes any careless mistakes in her school work or exam papers. She is quite good in her studies and always does well for exams.
As time elapse, the date she had to leave came closer. It was few months before PSLE, when the teacher announced that CY was back to Hong Kong to study. I then realised that I do not know her that well even after being classmates for one and a half year. After she went back, we started to keep in touch via e-mail. As I did not have an e-mail account then, I used my brother's e-mail account until my dad got me one later that year. Till today, I can still remember how I used to inundate her inbox with e-mails of what have happening in school and often about my feelings towards my classmates in school. I think these are all the past now. Even though I still miss her at times, but I no longer think of her as much as in the past. Now, I feel that I've got more courage to solve my problems and not to let the opinions of others affect me.
